Description

8 Steps to Obtaining Speaking Engagements for Business Development, Personal Branding, and Thought Leadership

Presentation in PDF format

Presented by Steve Markman, Markman Speaker Management

Standing out from the crowd to increase visibility for you or your company can be a huge challenge. One proven way to accomplish this objective is speaking at public events – at conferences, seminars, webinars, and forums held by associations, independent event organizations, and professional and industry trade groups. Learn eight key steps to ensure your speaker program objectives are met.

Attendees will learn:

  • Why unpaid speaking opportunities represent a powerful public relations, marketing, and business development tool as part of an integrated PR, marketing, and thought leadership strategy
  • How to research and identify the “right” speaking opportunities
  • How to submit proposals to the event organizers – the formal and informal processes
  • How to ensure your presentation has shelf life

Steve Markman is President of Markman Speaker Management (MSM), a speaker placement service established in 1994 and based in the Boston area with an international outreach. MSM (www.markmanspeaker.com) is used by corporate executives and professional services firms from numerous fields, including consulting, technology, law, consumer goods, financial services, life sciences, and manufacturing. Speaking engagements are obtained for clients in events held worldwide.  Clients use speaking engagements as a business development, marketing and public relations tool. Clients have included IBM, Perot Systems, Avaya, Ropes & Gray, Subaru, and Interpublic Group.

Steve has nearly 30 years of experience in the speaker/conference industry.  Prior to launching MSM, he held the position of Vice President of Conferences for BIS Strategic Decisions (now Forrester Research).  Prior to that, he served as Director of Conferences for The Interface Group, producer of COMDEX, previously the largest trade show in North America.  Previously he was Executive Director, Conference Division for the Conference Board, Inc., where he managed over 100 annual worldwide conferences. Steve writes and lectures frequently on the subject of speaking engagements. He is the Co-Chair of the Boston chapter of the Marketing Executives Networking Group (MENG).
